Football, like the rest of the world, is affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. 

All League and National league fixtures are off until the pandemic is over.

The National league has suspend  competitions indefinitely meaining it is very unlikly to go ahead with this match.

Tour de Yorkshire 2020

The 2020 Tour de Yorkshire is yet another major event that have been called off due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Plans were well on the way and the BBC Bus knew of 3 of the 4 venues that we were going to broadcast from.

However due to the spread of the virus the entire event will not take place in 2020.

UCI World Championships, Harrogate 2019

The UCI World Championships are the Road World cycling championships and as such atract teams and suporters from across the world. 

In September 2019 the championship where held in Yorkshire, focused around the town of Harrogate.

Based in the fan zone on the Harrogate Stay, BBC Radio York and BBC Look North (Leeds) both came along each day to broadcast.



It was all going very well until midweek.  Thats when the rains came in. A lot of Yorkshire was under water and the fan zone itself was tuned into a swamp.  The fan zone closed however the racing carried on and so should the briadcasting, from a closed fan zone.

Countyfilelive Castle Howard 2019

For the first time BBC Countyfile Live had too venues in 2019.   The northen venue was in the grounds of Castle Howard in North Yorkshire.

BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Humberside, BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio Sheffeild all came to Castle Howard to broadcast from the event.

It was at this southen event that had been held at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire since the start of the event, would move to Windsor Great Park in Berkshire for 2020.


The 2020 event at Catstle Howard has been canciled due to finance isuess (Not Covid 19),

Tour de Yorkshire 2016

The Tour de Yorkshire 2016

After the sussess of the Grand Depart of 2014, when the Tour de France started in Yorkshire, orgenisers of the tour made it an annual thing.   It can't be part of the full Tour de France each year so a new race was set up.    

THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE.

Now into its second year the Tour de Yorkshire takes place across the whole of Yorkshire and even into Middlesbro' this year.

The three day event is coved in full by BBC Local Radio and as you would expect the BBC Bus is there to lend a helping hand to what is a logistical nightmear for the stations.

On Friady the 29th of April the Tour started in the historic market town of Beverly in the East Riding.  The Bus was in the the village of Market Weighton to watch the tour leave the East Riding.  

On Day two (Saturday the 30th of April) we got in to West Yorkshire to the start line that was in Otley.  There we watched not only the start of the mens race but the start of the very first womans race with 27 year old Lizzie Armitstead starting the race in her home town.   Armitstead was a member of the gold medal winning team pursuit squad at the 2009 Track World Championships, her second appearance at a senior world championship event.

On the last day we headed back east again to scarborough to the finishing line by the beach.  Were we saw Danish Thomas Voecker beat Ireland's and team sky's Nicolas Roche by just six seconds over the whole three days.

Sor Geoff Hurst at the BBC Bus.

During the redevelopment of BBC Radio York they go given a BBC Bus so that they still had staff on their patch.

This means that I don't often get into York or North Yorkshire however I have filled in once when Mick (Radio Yorks driver) wanted a day off.

The Main event was a 10k run when we broadcast live from York race course. We even met THE world cup hat-trick hero himself.... SIR GEOFF HURST.

Before the Radio York had that bus and I had the Humberside bus I did 3 weeks for Radio York. One in Harrogate, one in Scarborough and one in York itself.
