Wembley Awaits

Football, like the rest of the world, is affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. 

All League and National league fixtures are off until the pandemic is over.

The National league has suspend  competitions indefinitely meaining it is very unlikly to go ahead with this match.

FA Cup Semi Finals 2020

This years FA Cup has fallen victim to the Covid 19 pandemic with all FA Cup games stopping before the 1/4 final stage.

When football gets underway again and if they try to finish all games then for teams from the 1/4 finals will play a rearranged semi final at some date in the future.

The teams into the 1/4 finals at the moment are:

Leicester City v Chelsea
Newcastle Utd v Manchester City
Sheffeild Utd v Arsenal
Norwich v Manchester Utd.

EFL Cup Final 2020

It is a staple of the BBC Bus.  The first visit to Wembley of the year and for the 3rd year in a row Manchester City are into the final.  This time they are up agents Premiership Aston Villa.

Football doesn’t stop in the capital and for the two hours in the run up to the match BBC WM will be live in at Tottenham’s ground for Tottenham v Wolves.  But they will broadcast from our new location on the Market Place next to Olympic Way for the two hours before that match. 

A true fan’s favourite BBC WM give out a limited edition hat in Villa’s colours and chatted to 100s of fans all wanting to see the glory days return to Villa Park.

BBC Radio Manchester had too much on that day and didn’t have time for a build up show from outside the ground.

BBC Radio Manchester in Middleton

BBC Radio Manchester spent a week away from the studios to broadcast from the town center of Middleton.

Just before the general election of 2019 one of the main topics that they talked about was politics.

On Monday Mike Sweeney came out to do his show from the town center however he was replaced due to not feeling well.

Tuesday and Thursday saw Becky Want come out with Phil Trow doing his drive show on Wednesday.

Mike was feeling better by Friday and came out to finish off the week with his mid morning show.

RHS Tatton Fower Show 2019

The RHS garden shows are a staple of the BBC Bus and have been for years.

In the North West we broadcast from RHS Tatton Park flower show each  year.

With a memorial garden dedicated to the memory of the late BBC North West weather presenter, Diane Oxberry who died suddenly on the 10th of January 2019.   

Due to that garden the BBC Bus didn't just turn up for the broadcast but stayed open to interact with the RHS members and visiters.   Glen Hunt was added to the Bus staff to help with that. 

Mutil briadcast from BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC Radio Manchester where added to broadcast ftom BBC Radio Stoke, BBC Radio Meresyside and BBC Radio Cumbria.

BBC Manchester @ Christmas

BBC Radio Manchester went out and about again at the start of Christmas to take in the Christmas cheer at the markets across Greater Manchester.

Two weeks at five different markets both weeks looked the same as far as venues go..


Monday - Ashton Under Lyne
Tuesday - Bolton
Wednesday - Bury
Thursday - Wigan
Friday - Altringtham



With each venue getting its own outside broadcast.

There was two aims of the outside tour. 

1. To promote BBC Radio Manchester in the outlining towns of the Greater Manchester.

2. To  broadcast from areas that BBC Radio Manchester from areas that don't get a lot of coverage on air.

To that end BBC Manchester spent a lot of time taking photos of listeners for the Facebook page. They can be found in the Christmas markets album.

The BBC Bus in Ashton

BBC Radio Manchester were out and about again at the start of 2014,  as part of the "Love Where You Live Tour".

A Week on the road hitting areas that Radio Manchester doesnt normally get to and this time we had a digital doctor.  Well....  It was me.  Somehow I ended up being the font of all knowledge about iPhones, iPads and other mobile devices.  It somehow worked.

Becky Want was the presenter that was out every day (apart from Friday when she had a day off).

The venues where The show came from were...

BBC Manchester's Austerity Christmas

Phil Trow Broadcasting from the Christmas Market.

The final two weeks of 2013 sees BBC Radio Manchester rap up its "Love We You Live" tour for the year.   Add that with the end of the Christie Campaign as all was set for another, al be it smaller, tour of a Markets in the Greater Manchester area.

The first week was spent in the city centre itself at the Christmas market that takes up Cross street, St Anne square and Exchange Square.

Parking up on Exchange Square we asked shoppers for Christmas dedications and even asked them to present the weather.

On each day a presenter came out to present his or her show live from the Christmas market.

Becky Want was first out for her lunch show then Sam walker was next with her lunch time.  And the final weekday presenter Phil Trow came out for his drive show.


At the weekend we stayed in the same place to bring Becky Wants show on Saturday and then brothers in law, Jimmy and Eamonn, came out in the morning before the very popular Mike Sweeney rapped up the week on the Market. 

Over the week we talked to 100s of potential listeners and recorded nearly 50 request for BBC Radio Manchester.

The second week had a few days days "on the road" before heading back to the Christmas Market.  

After a day off the Bus tour headed to "Eden Square" in Urmston where Phil Trow headed out again.

On Wednesday Becky Want came back out, this time to "The Rock" in Bury and Thursday was Sam Walkers time to head back to the bus when she came out to the Market in Royton.

Due to technical reasons Sam had to head back to the studio during her show however we still met quite a few new listeners (hopefully).

The final day was the busiest of the lot.  BBC 6 Music's Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie came out to the Christmas Market to broadcast via the bus between 12 noon and 4pm.  At 3pm Phil Trow made his 3rd visit to the bus where he made a simulcast between 6 Music and Radio Manchester.  Not often 6 Music is on FM!

Turn Back Time

What was the high street like before the days of Primark or Boots? The BBC 1 program Turn Back Time aims to find out. Over 100 years of high street history starting of with the Butcher, Baker and the Candlestick maker.

As the TV program revamped one high street in Somerset each week, BBC Video Nation picked 6 locations and found local storytellers and film makers to tell the history of their own high street.

The high streets range from, Stapleton Road in Bristol, which has the name of the most dangerous street in Britain, to the high street in Penzance. We also went to Eccles, Whitechaple, Beverley and Leicester.
