The Olympic Torch Relay 2012

Over 70 days in 2012 the Olympic Torch is crossing the UK.

Starting at Lands End in Cornwall, on the 19th of May, the torch went to every English county, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, before reaching the Olympic stadium in time for the games on the 27th of July.

As always the BBC bus has been with the torch every step of the way.  By the time the relay is over the re-branded BBC Olympic Bus will have made it to all but 4 BBC local radio stations, BBC Wales and BBC Scotland.

Arriving at each evening event we broadcast for the local station for that area about the party that is happing as the eyes of the world looks on.

Then the next day before heading to the next evening venue its breakfast time when the torch is relit and sent on its way for the day.

Starting in Cornwall and traveling up to Wales before a few days off as the torch goes to Northen Island.  We catch up with the Torch again as it came in to Scotland and then down the North East of England.   It was not long before it was going to the North west then Midlands and onward to the South East.    After  stops in the South it will make it to London in time for the games on the 27th of July 2012.

Along the way 8000 people got the chance to carry the flame.  From people who work in their community to well known sports personalities like Lewis Hamilton in Luton.

League Cup 2012 - Liverpool

Liverpool v Cardiff.

It's Been 6 years since Liverpool last won siverwear. But they now have King Kenny back looking to add to his personal tally of cups after hios premership win in 1995

 The English league cup was up for grabs on the 26th of feb 2012 between the most successful English Team and and the most successful Welsh team.

BBC Radio Merseyside Broadcast from just outside of the stadium on Olympic way between 1 and 3pm.

Also broadcasting was BBC Radio Wales and BBC Cymru both broadcasting from Olympic way for Cardiff fans.

Liverpool went on to win the cup. but not before ending the 90 minuets one all and the 120 mins 2 all.

The love bus.

The fist week out with the new BBC Bus was for BBC Radio Stoke. Visiting 5 places in 5 days around Stoke we broadcast the mid morning show, with Paula White (in for Stuart George).

The crowed turned out and the shows went better than expected.

It was the 14th of Feb on the Tuesday but the "love bus" tag was to given to the tour to tie in to the, "loving where you live" strap line.

It was such a success that BBC Stoke have asked to do it all agin in March.

Stargazing live.

Last week was the first week of this year back on the road.

At trip to Somerset was in order but not before we turned up at a school in Rugby.

A cloudless night is what greeted the stargazers at the Stargazing live event that was put on to tie in with the BBC 2 program.

Then the trip to Dulveton in Somerset to turn out the lights. Making national news the BBC 2 program got the whole town to turn off their lights at 8.30pm right in the middle of the program.

It was a big success in that all the lights went out however a rain cloud that came into the town in the morning hadn't moved by the evening and nothing was visible. Still it showed what was possible when a town pulls together.

Boxing Day at Matts

Boxing day 2012 was a first for me. We, (Margaret, Jessica and Joel) went round to Matts for the first time.

Nice place, Matt have a few members of his and Charlotte's family around for nibbles.

I did learn a few things....

1. Jessica and Joel don't like dogs

And

2. Matt can cook. Ok he isn't a hot chef but his chilly was very good,

Christmas 2011

Christmas day is always one for the families. So it was dinner at home after church, play with Hannah, Sam and Ethan before a trip across the M65 to see grandma and granddad.



Jessica and Joel had loads of fun with their gifts from all the family and friends but just had to have a go on Grandad's new drum kit.

The Royal Wedding 2011

April the 29th 2011. Not only was it Margaret's birthday but also the day of the Royal Wedding at Westminster Abbey.

H.R.H Prince William of Wales, K.G. married Miss Catherine Middleton.

It was an early start for my and John Reynolds as we headed into Hyde park for the party. The service was due to start at 11am however we were in the park by 4.30am.

Hyde park was where 3 large screens got put up so that 1000's of people could view the whole service and party. And Party they did. Over 100, 000 of them in Hyde Park alone.

It is estimated that over 2 billion people worldwide watched the wedding on TV. You never know 2 billion people could of seen the bus in the park.

BBC 3 Counties Radio and BBC London both came out to the bus to do a full show from Hyde Park as well as a stream for GNS to all stations and voxes being sent to all 40 stations. BBC Five Live also came along and used or bus too.

It was a manic day which ended with Gareth Roberts doing GNS 2 ways sat on the roof of the bus with people still partying around.

It was a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
The bus really came into it's own here as John broadcast 4 live streams of audio at once and each could be crossed with any of the others if needed.

BBC Humberside at 40

As BBC Radio Humberside turns 40 years old, Andy Comfort was told to get on is bike.

200 miles late he and two other members of staff had rasied over £10000 for the BBC's Candle Appeal.
Covering 40 miles a day the team tried to cover most af the region over the 5 days that they were out. Setting off in Grimsby on Monday morning and endding up in Hull on the Friday night.

People came from far and wide to donate and keep the team going. Well done to Andy and everyone that give to the appeal which is raseing money for a local childrens hospise in Grimsby.

An added extra to the bus was a memeber of digital switchover helpscheme staff on hand to help the swichover.

WMs all Loved up!

It's Valentines day and the BBC bus is in the Black Country. Well Bilston Market.

With WM's Jo Malin all loved up and broadcasting live from the bus we had a busy morning.

We were also joined with some first click tutors for the day.

Tomorrow it's the digital switchover in Tewkesbury on the high street.

Turn Back Time

What was the high street like before the days of Primark or Boots? The BBC 1 program Turn Back Time aims to find out. Over 100 years of high street history starting of with the Butcher, Baker and the Candlestick maker.

As the TV program revamped one high street in Somerset each week, BBC Video Nation picked 6 locations and found local storytellers and film makers to tell the history of their own high street.

The high streets range from, Stapleton Road in Bristol, which has the name of the most dangerous street in Britain, to the high street in Penzance. We also went to Eccles, Whitechaple, Beverley and Leicester.

A Cumbrian Tour

The BBC Bus visited Cumbria for the first 

time in September 2010 on a two week 

long station promotion taking in two large 

Cumbrian events.

The tour started on Tuesday the 2nd of 

September in Carlisle city center where the mid-morning program 

came from the bus.

It was a day off before we hit the oad again taking in Kendel Mintfest on Saturday the 4th of Sepember.

Anorther day off before there was two days in a row. On Monday the 6th of September we hit Whitehaven, outside the Beacon where Fern came out to broadcast his afternoon show live from the harbour. Then it was a 125 mile drive to Tuesdays venue , outside Forum 28 in Barrow town center

It was an earlt start on Thursday morning as the breakfast show came live from the 

bus at the Westmoreland show 2010.
