Stargazing live.

Last week was the first week of this year back on the road.

At trip to Somerset was in order but not before we turned up at a school in Rugby.

A cloudless night is what greeted the stargazers at the Stargazing live event that was put on to tie in with the BBC 2 program.

Then the trip to Dulveton in Somerset to turn out the lights. Making national news the BBC 2 program got the whole town to turn off their lights at 8.30pm right in the middle of the program.

It was a big success in that all the lights went out however a rain cloud that came into the town in the morning hadn't moved by the evening and nothing was visible. Still it showed what was possible when a town pulls together.

Rovers start to get a bit of Christmas luck.

It was all doom and gloom at Ewood after Bolton beat Rovers just before Christmas to out them bottom of the table on Christmas day.

Anti Kean and Venkys protest were the order of the day. However going into two big away games the Rovers hadn't changed a thing.

The boxing day game at Anfield was the first that Rovers were going to lose. However in the first half the Blackburn team had not read the script. An own goal by former Blackpool striker Charlie Adam saw the Rovers lead one goal to nil at half time. Liverpool got a go back when the teams came back onto the field but one point from that game was great.

It was a trip to Old Trafford on New Years Eve to take on Manchester Utd that was the second of the two Christmas games that Rovers couldn't win. It was 2nd v bottom. All Utd had to do was draw to be top of the table on January the first.

Again, Rovers didn't read the script, the Yak taking the first half lead. In the second half Rovers even got a second but that two goal lead only lead for less than a minute as Utd got one back.

It wasn't long before Utd drew level. 2-2. With not long to go Manchester United piled on the pressure looking for the goal that would see them 3 points clear at the top. But it was Blackburn that got the goal. And managed to see out the rest of the game.

Boxing Day at Matts

Boxing day 2012 was a first for me. We, (Margaret, Jessica and Joel) went round to Matts for the first time.

Nice place, Matt have a few members of his and Charlotte's family around for nibbles.

I did learn a few things....

1. Jessica and Joel don't like dogs

2. Matt can cook. Ok he isn't a hot chef but his chilly was very good,

Christmas 2011

Christmas day is always one for the families. So it was dinner at home after church, play with Hannah, Sam and Ethan before a trip across the M65 to see grandma and granddad.

Jessica and Joel had loads of fun with their gifts from all the family and friends but just had to have a go on Grandad's new drum kit.

It's Valentines day and the BBC bus is in the Black Country. Well Bilston Market.

With WM's Jo Malin all loved up and broadcasting live from the bus we had a busy morning.

We were also joined with some first click tutors for the day.

Tomorrow it's the digital switchover in Tewkesbury on the high street.

Big Chill

WOW what a weekend....

The Big Chill 2010 was great. MIA, Massive Attack, John Shutleworth and Lilly Allan.

All great but what I enjoyed most was the BBC 6 Music Set by Craig Charles. Live via the BBC Bus from the Big Chill Radio Studios. Not only a great show and many people dancing but he is a nice guy with it. Don't you just hate it???

Strange how many people turned up when he was around.

Hopefully we can do the same next year.

Well the snow has beaten us today. We can't get out the farm. So it's a day in today.

Still got a lot done Joel for example hit another mile stone. For the first time he sat in a high chair at the table.

He looked so proud to be joining Jessica, Mummy and Me at the table.

Well I have gone in to Blackburn today to do some work however the snow came down and guess what? I'm snowed in.

Still Jessica enjoyed it.

It's not just me Blackburn Rovers League Cup Game with Aston Via had been called off. So I just think I will stay by the fire place.

Last day of old bus.

The BBC Bus went to have it's new re-fit today. New computers, new cameras and new things to do. It all starts in Blackburn where the red rap is Bering taken off and a new coat of paint (red) is put back on.

It was very snowy in Blackburn, not to say very cold. I almost missed my train due to a strike in the ticket office. I wish they would publish when these strikes are going to happen when you book tickets. That way I can plan better.

On another subjet, I have just found iPhone.tvcachup.com. Freeview TV on your iPhone. Great.

It was nice to relax but with Jessica and Joel up all day we didn't realy relax. Until now. Just look at Joel.

We went to Preston Guild Hall today to see Ted Robins and Sally Naden in Cinderella. (is that how you spell it?)

Ted and sall were great. Jessica really enjoyed it and loved Fifi. Cinders herself however got stuck in snow and was 30 minuets late. These things happen. We got an extra treat as a result. Ted came out and did a spot of stand up for us.

10 years later

Today marks 10 years to the day that I quit Butlins. So much has happed sinced then. I work for the BBC and have a wife and two children.

But even after 10 years people still talk about what it was like back then. It really was the strangest job I have ever done.

BNP on Question Time. Right or Wrong.

As I right this blog large scale protest are happening outside BBC TVC on Wood Lane in London. This is due to the BBC showing the BNP leader, Nick Griffin, on question time.

The prostesters say they want the BBC not to air the program however ate they right.

Yes the BNP are rasist and stupid however they are a freely elected party and, like anyone in the uk, has freedom of speech.

Let's not take anyones human rights away. Not the blacks or the BNP.

Skipton Puppet Festival

Jessica made new frends again this weekend as she whet to the Skipton Puppet Festival, only this time it was with Punch. Well, thats the way to do it.

After meeting up with Grandma and Grandad she settled in to watch the show.

We only stayed a few hours but that was all Jessica could take and the day just put Joel to sleep.

Southport Flower show

David Bellamy was on hand at the southport flower show 2009 as the BBC Bus was used by BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC Radio Lancashire.

Four days of hard work and fun as the bus became a focal point of the show to find out what the final ashes test score was.

With England doing so well in the test the bus got very busy at times. England did go on to win and oh yes there where some flowers at the show, not just Andy Flower's lads.

Milkshake

We went to York yesterday to watch the milkshake tour.

Jessica was so happy to see Noddy, Fifi, Peppa Pig and all the other channel 5 childrens tv stars.

She is now looking forward to Cathy's wedding next Monday.

Albert Dock Liverpool

I have seen huge bugs, and man driving a piano and These childrens enteratainers.

On the bus childress can record a jingles and get given it on CD.

Nantwich Show

A very wet, very muddy Nantich show. With loads of cheese and cows but mainly mud.

BBC Radio Stoke used the bus to broadcast the mid morning show, or should that be Mud morning as the ground gave in to the rain.

Last day of the last Royal Show

The sun has come out for a few hours at least at the Royal Show. And the stars of Radio are out too.

As Liz Kershaw broadcast for BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Nicky Cambell broadcast his show on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Later the BBC C&W will broadcast as the show ends for the final time.

The first day of the very last Royal Show in Stoneleigh was a bit of a washout really. Thunder and lightening kept people away and the BBC Cov & Wark staff dried out on the bus.

We did broadcast a full show from the bus but numbers where down.

3 more days to go. Hope it's better weather for them.

The Royal Norfolk Show 2009

If you didn't have sun cream or a hat then the Royal Norfolk Show 2009 may not of been for you. Held in a heatwave the sun brought out record crowds.

The BBC bus was the center peice in a breathing place garden. With the plants around the area was quite and shaded.

BBC Royal Norfolk Show broadcast on AM when BBC Norflok stayed on AM.

I now have the weekend off as the bus goes to the Cotswolds show. I'm back for the Royal Show in Coventery.

Jelly at the Royal Show

The gates at the Royal Norfolk show opened this Wednesday and the weather was great for the first day.

A record heat wave lead to record attendence with people queing for hours to get in.

Once in the showground sun cream and hats where order of the day for adults where as for children it was a visit to the BBC bus to see Jelly From Cbeebies. (in photo).

Meanwhile the bus had a garden bulit around it which made it look reay nice.

Weekend away

Had a great weekend away at Holgates camping site in a motorhome. Jessica really enjoyed it and the sun was out so all in all it was fab.

Joel may not know what was going on but Jessica did and as soon as she saw the pool she was in. Twice a day.

Today we went out to Happy Mount Park in Morecambe. Jessica had so much fun she had to sleep on the way home. Joel on the other hand just slept all the time.

With sun cap and fully creamed up, Jessica enjoyed playing in the garden with her new sand pit from ELC.

I, on the other hand, was too hot so I spent most of my time inside out of the hot sun.

A weekend away. They Said! Bring a tent. They said! What they didn't tell me was the "get up at 4.30am to listen to the birds. well I can do that from my tent.

BBC Breathing Places in Lincolnshire was a great success and the BBC Bus was there to help put with uploading photos to the BBC website.

Faces with PNE Keeper Andy Lonergan she side foots him and scores a goal.

Jessica didn't want to leave and may be back in September, (at the Pre-school that is - not takeing shots in Championship keepers.

The BBC Bus is back and being used for Big BBC campains.

Over the last week I have been in MK finding out about what it is to be English!

The idea was to sing a new "english" song in Mk, get on a London Routemaster to Luton then by Train to London where the story was told all over again.

From MK it was on to Birmingham for St Georges day in the square. A full filled day and loads of people to talk to.

What a week. It started with a visit to the hospital for Margaret to have a scan. The good news is the baby is doing fine and should put in an apperance around the 31st of May. (Befire you ask, No we don't know the sex)

Thursday was a night out to say goodbye to Liam my old boss as he leaves the BBC. Good luck to him.

Then to cap the week Free tickets, Three Goal and Three points at ewood. as Blackburn beat Newcastle 3 - 0. Theres only one BIG SAM.

Jessica really enjoyed herself yesterday by rounding off 2008 with a Darwen. There she meet up with Jessica and Olly.

Daddy and Mummy also meet with Danneil and Stu and it was really great to see them too.

Jessica played really hard and then went to Graandma's and Grandad's for more play. On the way we bumped into Unc Andy out shoping.

Anyway it was a great way to end 2008 and here's to a great 2009. Strange isn't it, this time last year I had no idea what job I was going to be doing at the end of the year. Now Im in a great job and Jessica is coming on really well.

Win and Draw

After just 3 games in Charge of Blackburn Rovers it's wins 1 and 2 draws for big Sam. Picking up 5 points from 9.

Not a bad return for the ex Bolton and Newcastle boss when you consider where we were when he came in.

Still we are 19th out of 20th but closed the gape down to 2 points.

Well I am glad that is over for another year. Having 3 cristmas days next to each other so as not to upset anyone is not good. How did that man who had 365 christmas days a year cope?

Yesterday Jessica opened her presnets from her Mum and Dad on her 2nd Christmas. Today (Boxing day) we are going over to Darwen to get the rest of the family's gift. Jessica is worried that Grandma will not like her present but I have told Jessica not to worry.

THE NEW BBC BUS HITS IPSWICH

The first time out for the new All England BBC Bus is Suffolk.

For the whole of May the tour of Suffolks towns and villages has taken place. From Ipswich Town Football Club's 30 years of winning the FA Cup to Lowersoft Town in the FA Vase. From Bury St Edmonds to the Suffolk show its been a month of new venues and places for the bus to get too.

BBC Radio Suffolk Never did have a bus before so this is just as big a challange for the station as it is for me.

For the next two day I will be at the Suffolk Show before heading up to Norwich for a "Learn New skills day" outside BBC Radio Norfolk.

NEW JOB

What a week!!!

First I was told that My job here at BBC Radio Humberside was safe. I will not be made redundent and I will carry on beeing a programs BJ however I had two applications in for attachments.

On Monday I went to BBC Radio Lancashire in Blackburn to be interviewed by Ben Thomson and Liam McCarthy for a bus BJ/Driver to travel around the UK.

On Friday I had an interview for BBC Radio York. They are getting a bus and needed a Bus driver/BA.

Luckly I got the first job so I pulled out of the Radio York job. I will take up my new role on April the 7th 2008 and it will last for at least a year. I will travel around the UK from one radio station to another promoting the BBC and carring on the work of the BBC Buses.

When my attchment ends I will come back to BBC Radio Humberside and carrie on working.

The last few months have been hard as I didn't know what I was going to do, now I can go on attachment knowing I am safe in the BBC.

What a way to rap up a great week. Suppersub Matty Derbyshire scored the winning goal late in the game at St, James Park. Earler on this week his wife give birth to not one, but two baby.

The goal moves Rovers into 7th place in the league and onto the race for a UEFA cup spot. Well Done Matty.

6 Nations do battle

For the next few week I forget about the football and go after the oval ball. The 6 Nations is here.

The world cup finalist will take on Wales, Italy, Ireland, France and Scotland to be the kings of the north. It's what dreams were made of. Nothing will stop England getting the Grand Slam this year.

The first match for England and it's at home V Wales. EASY.

Half time and everything is going to plan. 10 points up..... Full Time.. Bugger what happened there? Wales win by 7 points! So much for our Grand Slam Dream.

Never mind it's Italy next weekend. They can't beat us!! Can they???

Nugent comes back to Deepdale.

Preston North End get a home draw in the 5th round of the FA Cup with former PNE star David Nugent's Pommy on his way back to the north west to play.

With Blackburn, Burnley and Blackpool already wacthing from afar our support falls behind the North End.

Can they really be the first none-premership club to get to the final since Millwall? After beating Premership Derby County in the last round. Who Knows.

No More BBC BUS

The BBC and The Unions agree.

Well it's a start. The BBC and the Joint unions have started to agree. This May safeguard my job, safeguard the quality of BBC output and safeguard trust in a BBC which is being lead from one disaster to another. (Blue Peter ect.)

The BBC had a very bad 2007 with trust in the corperation at an all time low. If strike action is taken by the unions this is only hurt the cooperation in the long term.

It's time for Mark Thomson and the BBC Trust to stand up and be counted. Thanks for listening Mark now act. Your cooperation is hurting and staff moral is at a 20 year time low. We where , not so long ago, the most creative organization in the world. Lets get back there and let the broadcasters broadcast.

I fear that it is too late for the Buses, however you can save the open centers and keep the hard earned respect of our audiences.

Fight for Your BBC

Tomorrow the votes will be counted in for Strike action in the BBC. Jobs have already been cut and people have started to lose the UPA. With Pensions and more jobs under threat the BBC is asking itself where does it go from here.

On Friady this week I will be taking our BBC Bus over to BBC Manchester for Scrappimg. This was one way that the BBC met the audence now we are back in the ivory towers is Cities across the UK.

Hope for a Yes vote for Strike action and hope that job cuts in the BBC are not made in Broadcast areas. Can we run a radio or TV station with less staff? Well Yes, but would it be worth watching or lisening to? NO!

As you pay the licesnce fee, you can demand quaity in the broadcast that you pay for.

Blackburn Out of the FA Cup

First it was the UEFA Cup, Then the League Cup. Today Blackburn Rovers crashed out of the FA Cup at the first attempt. 3 years on the row they got to the semis but this year we will be watching the rest go on to Wemberley.

With League form not as good as can be the old addage, "Lets Consentrate on the League" is a hope. Now an Automatic UEFA cup spot in the league is what we must get to to say we have had a good season.

Homeward bound

After spending New Year in Lancashire its time to head back to Yorkshire. We have had loads of fun and Jessica has got even more toys. How many toys can one small girl use?

Job Lost

This week Mark Thompson (DG of the BBC) told the BBC of his plans to cut 2500 jobs and to stop running BBC Buses and Open Centers.

This means that I am now looking for new work, inside and outside the BBC. Where as I have time to find something, my contract will not end until Aug 2008, the job I love will end in March.

It's sad news for me and all the people that work in the open centers and on the buses but also a sad day for the BBC as it will lose its hard earned contact with it's listeners and viewers.

Sleep in - No chance

Two days off work - Great chance to catch up on my sleep. No Chance, Jessica keeps us awak from 2am on Monday morning and on Tuesday we had to take her for her Jabs.

Well I say we had to take her, what I mean is they told us to take her. Turns out they were wrong and she didn't need any jabs.

Oh well, work tomorrow, maybe I can sleep there.

Rovers Lose in UEFA cup

Well That was bad news. Rovers lose 2-0 away in the UFEA cup mealing they have an up-hill battle to get in to the group stage.

I've just got back from spending 3 nights in a tent in Drifield. It was all part of the Scout camp that was happening there. 100 years of scouts. It was great fun if a little cold at night. The BBC Humberside web pages are going to get loads of photos and audio soon.

Maggies mum is coming over tomorrow. She is staying until saturday. (I think)

First time I have got a blog up and running and here it is.

Im in Lancashire at the moment, visiting frends and family after the birth of my first baby, Jessica.

Today we went to see Jessica's Great Grandma then on to The BBC Bus (Lancashire) to see Chris and Sall. Great to see the guys from Lancashire and it reminded me that it is back to work for me on Friday for the Scout camp in Driffeld.

Chris give me a few ideas about how to get around the whole wifi problem that I'm having on the Humberside bus and Sally interviewed Margaret about what it is like to have a water birth.

I will have to listen to that tomorrow between 2pm and 3pm.
